Team Leader Operational Policy, Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children Wellington Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children works to advance the wellbeing and positive long term outcomes for tamariki/children in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at risk of harm now, or in the future. This includes children/tamariki who may have offended or are likely to offend. The wellbeing and best interests of tamariki/children are at the centre of our work and their voices underpin the design and delivery of our services. About the role: The Operational Policy team develops operational policy that links our frontline work to legislation, over-arching policy and the organisation’s qualifications for best practice social work. The purpose of the Team Leader Operational Policy is to support the Manager, Operational Policy, to deliver all aspects of the Operational Policy team functions. The Team Leader Operational Policy will lead a team of Senior Advisors and Advisors to ensure they provide a consistently high standard of work, analysis and advice which is effective and fit for purpose, and which aligns with the operational policy work programme. We are looking for a team player who has: • demonstrated people organizational skills in leading high performing teams • outstanding relationship management expertise to create an environment where people with different views can collaborate together to achieve the best possible outcomes • deliver results by making things happen in a timely and responsive way, with and through others • a strong understanding of the operational policy development process, the parliamentary processes and the role of legislation • a sound understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Māori • expertise to anticipate and resolve problems and to make decisions based on sound risk management analysis • a demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, our Māori cultural framework and section 7AA (Oranga Tamariki Act 1989) obligations • a curious mind capable of understanding complex issues and researching solutions • good verbal, written and interpersonal communication expertise It is highly desirable that you have background in developing policy or operational policy in a legislative environment.
